Learn more about pressure vessel inspections, what they are, the regulations surrounding them, and how we can help you below.

What is a PSSR inspection?

A PSSR (Pressure Systems Safety Regulations) inspection is a mandatory assessment of pressure systems in industrial settings. It ensures that these systems, including boilers, pressure vessels, and pipelines, meet safety standards and are fit for operation. The inspection involves verifying proper design, installation, maintenance, and adherence to safety regulations. It helps prevent accidents, leaks, and equipment failures, ensuring the safety of personnel and the environment while promoting compliance with legal requirements.

When are pressure vessel inspections required?

Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR)

The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) require pressure vessels to be inspected in accordance with a Written Schemes of Examination. Pressure vessel regulations apply to owners and users of relevant fluids, including steam, gases under pressure, and any fluid kept artificially under pressure that becomes a gas when released into the atmosphere.

What Are the Legal Requirements For Inspection?

There is a legal requirement for thoroughly examining pressure vessels and receivers containing steam, compressed air, and refrigerants. Any pressure vessel containing compressed gas over 250 bar/ litres capacity requires inspection.

Do You Require a Pressure System Inspection?

To establish whether or not you need a pressure vessel inspection, simply multiply the vessel operating pressure (in bar units) by the vessel capacity (in Litres). For example, 10 bar x 50 Litres = 500 bar/ litres capacity and, therefore, is above the 250 bar/ litre threshold. This system requires an inspection with a written scheme of examination.
